This life can be wonderfully whimsical and uncanny. I have recently started an affair with the Mary El Tarot.
We are just getting acquainted, but it’s going to be a long affair, I can already tell.
My prediction is that our time together will be filled with contemplation and wonder, self-reflection and magical moments. I don’t think she’ll replace my Fairy decks, but I’m a little bit like a teenager with a crush at the moment!
The Mary-El tarot deck is gorgeous and unconventional, and imbued with layer upon layer of symbolism and emotion that’s unlike any other deck I’ve seen. For all it’s whimsical paint strokes and rich bright colours, it’s a deck that feels pretty heavy to me. Serious, yet irreverent. Powerful, yet playful. I had my first real tarot-coming-to-life experience with this deck, so I’m sure it will always have a special place on my shelf of cards.
I fell in love with a tree a few months ago. She’s gnarly- for real, with so many every-which-way branches, reaching out and growing beautifully. She’s on a path in the woods near my house that I meander quite often. And to think I had missed her, all of these years!
She’s feels majestic and ancient, and there is something really special about her. I feel like she is a survivor, and that she is the lady-boss of the woods around her. Yes… I let my imagination run a little bit wild when I am in alone in the woods… but that’s the beauty of it. It’s always a refreshing creativity boost, and an escape from the normality of email and voicemail.
I love me a little bit ‘o nature-based daydreaming. 😉
The day I found her I decided to pull out my camera and do an impromptu photo shoot. She’s a photogenic beauty, and I posted her leafy glamour shots on instagram when I got home.
A few days later, I pulled out my new deck… and I drew the 4 of wands.
I rushed to pull the photo up on the screen… and bingo… my heart raced with the magic of the moment. They were an absolute perfect match.
I am absolutely amazed at how the symbols on these cards are breaking through to everyday life in such a literal way for me.
I am grateful to be witness to the magic of everyday life, and to be on this journey of self-love, discovery and earth wisdom.
