Did I tell you how much I love olive oil?
I use it in my food and on my skin – in hair nourishing treatments and in lip balm. But on THE FRIDGE? I have to admit that it took me a long time to try this. A family friend told me about using olive oil to clean your stainless steel, but I was very hesitant. What if I ruined my fridge and dishwasher door? What if I ended up with a big streaky stain or spot that would never come out?
After I tried every stainless steel cleaner under the sun the first few years we had our shiny new kitchen (and eeeeeek, the chemicals!) I finally busted out the organic olive oil, dripped it onto a piece of paper towel and went to town.
And, for the record: USING OLIVE OIL ON YOUR APPLIANCES IS A BIG YES.
Drippy stains goodbye. What a wonderful, safe, and non-toxic solution to my blotchy stainless steel problem.
The oil darkens the look of the stainless just a tad – see image below. The first pass didn’t get rid of all the marks, but with a little elbow g̶r̶e̶a̶s̶e̶ my kitchen looked new again. I love safe, easy, non-toxic things that simplify life.
- Clean off any food, stains, etc. that you can with a damp cloth first.
- Pour a tiny dot of olive oil onto a paper towel and begin to spread it over the appliance.
- Resist the urge to wipe it off with a damp cloth, and presto!
